FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The FLEA Advantage: Transforming Middle School Students into Future Leaders through Gamification

*Date: August 26, 2024

*Location: Prosper Texas

The FLEA Advantage, an innovative after-school program, is redefining education for middle school students with untapped potential. Using gamification, the program empowers students to learn business fundamentals, develop business plans, raise virtual funds, and manage their own companies.  Over the course of the program, 12 students will have the opportunity to earn up to $500 each based on their team's performance.

Empowering Through Gamification

Gamification at The FLEA Advantage integrates game-like elements such as point scoring, competition, and structured rules into learning activities to boost engagement.  By making challenging tasks enjoyable, the program enables students to gain experience in complex business concepts that usually take years to learn, all within a few months.  This hands-on, fun, and immersive approach—coined “The FLEA Method”—ensures that each participant undergoes a transformative learning experience.

Why We Do This

By changing the trajectory of these 12 students, The FLEA Advantage sets them on a path toward achieving a higher-than-average household income, increased net worth, and better health outcomes. Our program helps students develop elevated IQ levels relative to their education and clearly understand the value of academic excellence. The FLEA Advantage aims to contribute positively to society by reducing incarceration risks and the reliance on subsidized healthcare, stabilizing healthcare premiums, and increasing tax revenues.

The Power of Starting Early

Targeting middle school students, particularly those around 13, takes advantage of their heightened cognitive abilities, improved memory, and processing skills.  At this age, students develop greater metacognitive awareness alongside enhanced language, communication, and social intelligence. This makes middle school a pivotal time for fostering lifelong learning and personal growth, setting a solid foundation for high school and beyond.

How It Works: A Simple and Engaging Approach

At The FLEA Advantage, each student is paired with a teammate, and together, they begin with an identical virtual company.  This “company” evolves into a unique entity reflecting students' personalities and decisions. Much like an avatar in a video game, this approach promotes positive personal growth and encourages students to identify with their achievements.

We believe that learning should never be boring.  The chance to earn up to $500 and use gamified learning processes makes education engaging and rewarding. By blending competition and fun, students learn the importance of problem-solving and see that their efforts directly lead to personal and academic growth.

Challenging the Status Quo

The FLEA Advantage challenges the notion that business education is too advanced for middle school students.  While many college students and small business owners struggle with balance sheets and income statements, The FLEA Advantage believes in the capacity of young minds to master these concepts.  The program's message is clear: never underestimate what these students can achieve.

Exceeding Expectations

Unlike methods focusing on individual talents or models where “everyone wins,” The FLEA Advantage stands out by using a structured, company-centric approach. Through initial screening and a strong focus on gamification, The FLEA Advantage expects over 95% of its students to successfully complete the course and be equipped with the skills needed for future success.
